Detective Sergeant, East Midlands Police, Cyber Crime Unit
Every Police region in England and Wales now has a dedicated Cyber Security Protect Coordinator whose responsibilities include linking in with the local SMEs to signpost and promote good cyber hygiene in order to prevent businesses and individuals becoming victims.
The East Midlands policing region (Northants, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire) is covered by Detective Sergeant Carole Walton; she has been working in the cyber crime arena for 12 of her 24 years in Northants Police and has previously been seconded to work with the College of Policing as a National High Tech Crime Trainer (teaching Covert Internet Investigations, Mobile Phone Forensics and Open Source Research) and Child Exploitation Online Protection (CEOP) Centre where she was involved in all aspects of online investigations and operations and during which she presented at Interpol and Europol and delivered training to officers in South East Asia. Carole attained a Post Graduate Certificate in Behavioural Forensic Psychology (Online Child Sex Offenders) during this time.
Prior to taking up her current role, Carole was involved in the formation of the Northants Police Child Sexual Exploitation Team (now known as RISE). She was the first Detective Sergeant in the new Northants Cyber Crime Unit and was responsible for the development and creation of the Digital Media Investigator team.
